As long as it's the same geometry and fit I could care less if what I race is the same as what I train on, and if you're on a budget, I can totally understand racing a cheaper bike than what you train on. We all know the likelihood of crashing in a race is much higher than training.
Agreed but far too often I see people mention a 'crit bike' yet are racing on $2,500 Zipps (case in point above). The likelihood of pancaking a set of wheels is very high (especially in lower cats). I'm not singling out anyone as I had the same conversation with a friend this week about some buddies who have done the same thing.
