I'm home now and this Garmin watch I have is a Vivo Active. Looks like I'll be doing some testing over the next few days to see if I have to invest in a separate HR monitor- either @rpenmanparker's wrist band (thanks for that idea, BTW ), or a chest strap. Choosing a Garmin 520/800/1000, et. al. will have to wait for my brand-new bike purchase, which is still TBD.
