Maybe not the most lightweight or blingy, but I have a fondness for the entry-level Shimano groups of this era. Good stuff like slant-parallelogram RDs, indexing, cassette hubs, and Hyperglide (dual-pivot brakes a couple years later) didn't take long to trickle down to the bottom, but the low-end groups were not cheap-feeling to use (yet.)
