I've never been a materialistic person... A few years ago I started learning about cycling and car-free living. Once that happened, bikes have been a constant object of desire. Maybe it's a combination of finding bicycles beautiful, excitement and pride at the idea of self-powered travel, and an outsized feeling of freedom at the extra savings over what I spent on a car; for example, I realized I'd have to spend over $10,000 USD on a bicycle to match what I spent on an economy car over 5 years, without considering maintenance and the fun and fitness benefits that come with it.
