I too, purchased my 'cotter pins' at Home Depot. I recommend stainless steal. I keep the pins attached to the trailer with a lanyard and always carry a spare set while on tour.
No rush, I'm just working on getting everything back into good working order. I think the straight pin portion of the pin goes into the hole in the fork and that is what hold everything together. Thanks!
