Here is the 1971 Dawes Galaxy I just fiinished for the Silicon Valley Bicycle exchange. It has been thoroughly reconditioned and upgraded and will be for sale to help finance our non profit.
We are on track to donate 1000 bikes back into the community this year . Yeah!!!

Restoration
Strip frame of hardware
Check frame alignment and adjust
Cold set rear dropouts to 126 mm.
Clean, treat rust, t/u paint and clear coat frame
Replace fork with NOS Tange chrome unit with forged ends
Install new chrome head set and bearings
Replace Cottered steel crank with Forged one piece aluminum square taper crank with 38,52 tooth aluminum rings, new bottom bracket cups, bearings, and spindle.
Replace original 27” steel wheels with aluminum and new 27 x 1” Pasella gum wall tires
Replace original 5 speed freewheel with Shimano hyper glide 6 speed
Replace original Simplex derailleurs with Suntour AR x Gt (long cage) rear and Suntour 7 front.
Replace Original damaged Brooks saddle with new touring saddle
Replace brake blocks with new Kool Stop units with replaceable rubbers
Clean and polish all original hardware.
All new cables and covers
Lube all bearings
Adjust.
