Some say there is nothing more expensive than a free bike, but I think you did okay. My son has a later model Club Fuji that I picked up for only $20. It needed the usual consumables, i.e. tires, cables, bar wrap, but also new bearings in the bottom bracket. It had sat outside long enough that water had accumulated and several bearings were corroded away. I updated it with STI levers after he took a nasty spill while shifting the downtube levers. I think I have still less than $100 total invested.
