I'm decidedly not a purist, and I (or rather my joints) very much prefer fat, plush tires, but I'm with the others here recommending against a 650b conversion on this one. My guess, given the general geometries of the era, is that even going to 650b you might only get 35c tires to fit (obviously could be wrong here...), at least not without dimpling the chain stays.... And there are no fender eyelets- to my mind, 650b means 'all-road'/long distance/rando'ing, and that means adding fenders!
