I dunno, but, after the mid 80's Gitane seems to have lost its focus. The graphics and paintjobs were never as nice as they were, compared to what they had in the earlier 80's. Sure, the older blue paint and pleasantly understated looking bubble font graphics might be considered plain by some, but it gave the bikes a really solid identity that really connects them with the factory team's bikes.
Peugeot had the same thing happen when they replaced their then already iconic metallic white paint and checkered racing flag graphics with the much less inspiring black with the slanted color bands that seemed to have come out of nowhere.
