I've never ridden one but there are different types. 3 of my friends have Specialized Turbo Creo bikes. They turn the assist off when cruising. There are 3 (I think) programmable power settings. You program each power setting for the percentage of assist you want in that setting.

One friend has heart issues and uses assist most of the time. Still, if he does a fast club ride he will get a-fib. Other friend got one because he got tired of trying to control his weight. At least that's the simple answer. He's always been a masher and he says the e-bike demands high cadence. Took him a while to adapt and figure it out. Showed me graphs of his heart rate running way higher than before.

I'm scheduled for a stress echo next month. After that I hope to hear that I can keep hammering the regular bike. We'll see.
