Headed out to one of my childhood haunts in Victoria's
Wimmera region, about 257km NW of Melbourne. When I was a kid I used to ride along the river with a BMX or mountain bike, before 'gravel' riding was a thing - but this is surely the very definition of gravel cycling - riding along a gravel road - even if it was on an old hybrid (Giant Escape). I'm not sure if I enjoy riding my bike more now or when I was a kid. The landscape is as flat as a tack - so you can just eat up the miles (but in my case it was only about 30kms). The landscape is a bit of a double-edged sword - because it's so flat, it's easy to ride - but it also felt like I didn't go anywhere!
