I'll say it again (I think), Italy and or most of Europe vs Cal/USA is apples and oranges, we do not have it in our DNA, they cycle, race, ride and play soccer from very early on for well over a Century.

We watch "Pro" mega profit "sports" as a nation on tv while sitting on our duffs and seeing how much beer we can drink.

The other big factor is the all in ethos they have, all in and all hands on deck, towns, townspeople, businesses, local and most other officials treat it as the civic duty it is in a big picture view.

We will never get there but hopefully we can hang onto this one thing which is far better than nothing at all.
