SPOT is another satellite tracking service that you might look into. Little less upfront cost that Garmin inReach depending on what device and extra features you get. But still requires a subscription service.

When I had a sailboat myself and several of my other sailing friends used them. You give the people a URL link with a code and then they can see your location by going to the site with any internet browser they care to use. It worked great for us and our family and friends to see locations even when we were more than 100 miles offshore in the Atlantic.
