I don't need to see the current grade displayed as I can feel it. What I do like is Garmin's Climb Pro feature showing what I'm about to face. I find that works pretty well most of the time.
I like the ClimbPro feature, also. It seems to be fairly accurate, but it can mess up where you currently are on the grade. If you're doing a stair step climb, it may show you on a steep bit when you are actually on a flat bit, and vice versa. The "distance to the summit" reading is a nice feature.
