My LBS (a Trek dealer) basically destroyed the eccentric trying to get the wedge loose. There are those who claim that there is a way to break the wedge free without resorting to mallets but that is what most shops will use. As for the o.p. I don't think their problem is in the BB. I think one or both crankarms are loose on the BB spindle. That is an 8mm allen fixing bolt. Easy solution. I'd be surprised if snugging down those big allen bolts didn't improve things right away.
