The worst trail trashers in PHX are dog walkers. Seems like they get tired of carrying their bag of dog poop.
Too many people around here seem to think, "It's okay! It's natural!", ignoring the fact that it just sits there drying out from April to November and then as soon as the rains come it ALL gets washed down.
I also see bags of it sitting by the trail. It might be people who are planning to come back and pick it up, or it might be people who just didn't want to carry it and decided to leave it. You can't tell by looking at it, and it's easy enough to carry with. And it also provides a weapon, should you need it.......
