Matt Assenmacher, the builder of this bike, is still around, he recently sold his bike shop to Trek and is likely enjoying retirement with his family in Michigan.

Here's a blurb from CR:

"Matt Assenmacher, founded Assenmacher Lightweight Cycles in Mt. Pleasant Michigan in 1973. The Company was originally founded as a small custom bicycle shop utilizing the skills and technology learned while apprenticed in Leeds, England under the tutelage of Dan Foster at Bob Jackson Cycles Ltd. Using and refining these skills the company built a national reputation for solid quality designs and craftsmanship. In 1978 The company moved to Swartz Creek, Michigan and opened a full service retail bicycle shop. In addition to the Assenmacher brand of custom bicycles the store sold other nationally known brands such as Schwinn and Trek.. There are now three Assenmacher Cycling Centers in the Flint, Michigan area catering to the cycling needs of serious enthusiasts as well as the more modest needs of the general population.

A life long cyclist and cycling advocate Matt Assenmacher still designs, builds, repairs and paints custom frames in the Swartz Creek store. His custom bicycle frame designs have won numerous local, state, regional, and national events. In addition Michael Secrest of Flint, Michigan set a world 24 hour record on an Assenmacher Bicycle.

Matt is married to Barbara and has two daughters, Sarah and Megan."
