I was considering buying a Taz 1200 since the price is reasonable, but this thread confirms the same complaint several folks expressed on Amazon reviews and elsewhere: for whatever reason, the Taz lights seem sub-par, by Light & Motion standards, for battery life. Too many complaints of batteries failing after only a few months, and not holding a charge between uses.
Too bad. I was hoping to get a Taz for my nighttime rural rides, where a broader and brighter beam would be helpful.
But I'll probably get another Urban. My Urban 500 is going on more than 3 years and still works great, with about the same runtime per charge as when new. Some little nagging annoyances: the plastic USB port cap broke off, so I have to pull it off carefully; the rubber band strap broke, so I replaced it with a Two Fish which works great; and the light can't be charged and run simultaneously, which L&M fixed in the Rando model. But a 900 or more powerful Urban would do pretty well.
