hey at least you figured it out. I think there's a time when everyone changes/upgrades pedals, but the stock ones are fine for hitting some trails.
I use a cateye strada, has a cadence sensor as well as speed, which is nice. Can't transfer data and doesn't sync to phone but batteries last forever.
