I recall that IBM PC's were running around $2000 or so back in the early or mid 80's. Two floppy drives, or if you had cash to burn, you could get a hard drive!! Pretty exotic stuff for the day, and certainly attractive to an engineering student such as myself. That was a huge amount of money for a student, so I got by with my programmable Hewlett Packard calculator. Still have that!
