However, realize that V brakes were a bigger game changer than disk brakes were. When Vs appeared, cantilevers instantly disappeared from all MTBs, it took disks about 15 years to take over MTBs.
Honestly properly set up cantilevers perform great. I use them instead of V-brakes. Cantis don’t have to be spaced as close to the rim as a V and give far more clearance in sloppy conditions. But to each his own.
