-- I was born in 1948. I ride a 1970's road bike greatly modified for my middle-aged comfort since I have slowed down. During the gas crises of the early '70s I bought a new Raleigh 3-speed and commuted in LA county. I loved it. Later I traded "up" and got my present 10-speed 2nd hand. From 1986 - 1991 I needed my car for my job and did not bike much. After I moved to Humboldt County I saw a PBS documentary about the US Army's 25 Infantry Bicycle Corp of the 1890's. THAT inspired me, at age 52, to get my bike out of mothballs and modify it for comfort. Now I use it for "after-hours" commuting... about 1000 miles per year.
