Jason, we actually stayed on route 9 just about all the way to Toms River, expecting thunderstorms the entire time--though that didn't happen until we were on the train in Bay Head. The funkiest part was crossing the Mullica River. We weren't sure bikes were allowed on 9 at that point, but figured we'd head that way and find out. It was two miles of essentially riding on the highway shoulder, but never did see a sign that said we couldn't!
