That's the way you should do it, but with tubeless I just leave the front on and change the rear. 1 front to 2 rears is about right.

In addition to avoiding the extra work of dismounting/remounting the front, there's also frugality and vanity at play - I want to get my money's worth out of the tires, but I like to try different tires and I don't like being mismatched on the bike, so 1f:2r is the best compromise for me.
