Green belts in my area have become havens for homeless encampments, and most local residents have now learned to avoid venturing into them. The local MUPs that skirt any green belt are usually walked in groups, with certain sections being avoided by many MUP users during daylight hours, and with the MUPs near any green belt being practically unused at night.
