I don't think this is just about the pros. Doping is common among amateurs. And this has big implications for young racers trying to break into the upper echelons. Dope at low levels of racing where testing doesn't happen. Then dial back doping when you reach the more elite level. Dope in the off season where you can avoid out of competition testing. And if you are caught doping, you may still physiologically be ahead even with a 1 or 2 year suspension from the sport. Implications: lifetime bans, or longer bans. Also lifetime biological passport. Or just give up and it's the wild west. I think the current situation is "don't ask, don't tell." "Just make sure you don't get caught" and we can all pretend the sport is clean.
