2020 ytd

I got in a 40 mile ride today. That put me over the 7000 mark YTD (7020). The most I had done before was 6000 in 2017. This is also the 6th year, maybe 7, in a row of surpassing 4000 miles, after having never accomplishing that before. This is only the 2nd year I have ever actually set a miles goal and accurately kept track for the year. My goal is 7320, to give me an average of 20 miles per day for every day of 2020, a leap year. If, 40 years ago, someone told me I would ride 7000 miles in a year when I am 68 years old, I would have thought they were crazy. I am now looking at possibly hitting the 8000 mile mark.

Most of those miles have been on my Lemond Tourmalet and newest bike, a Soma Smoothie. The rest are spread out among 4 other bikes. The farthest I have been from home in those miles is about 30. My longest ride was 78 miles, most days in a row riding is 16, and most days off in a row is 5. At least 95% of the miles have been on pavement, with a few hundred miles on MUPs, and no more than 100 miles off road.

Like so many people, I have had a lot of free time this year. Bicycling has filled a lot of that time and kept me from going bonkers. 47 days left in 2020.
