Help with Shimano 105 5600 to 5700 upgrade

Hi, I usually post in the vintage forum, since my knowledge base is mostly friction shifting....

Anyway, I just bought an 2011 Specialized bike for my wife, which is original Shimano 105, 5600 series.... It is a triple in front with 10 speed maxing out at the top rated 27T in back.

I want to change the rear derailleur to a 5700 (since it is rated to 30T) and of course, then change the cassette to a same era cluster that tops out at 30T, but keeping the same hub/wheelset.

I know the 5700 RDR can handle the 30 and the total capacity, but will it work with the 5600 brifters?

I've read through old threads, and there's conflicting information.

Any experience or wisdom appreciated!!
