Location - La Crosse, WI

Weather - +6-10F, sunny and into sunset, north wind ~6MPH

Ride - 19 miles, mostly snow covered roads, in just under two hours. Two small climbs, otherwise mostly flat.

What did you wear? Nothing cycling specific
  • Head: Merino balaclava, snowboard helmet, ski goggles
  • Upper: Thin merino base layer, fairly light merino sweater, Mammut Ultimate Hoody
  • Lower: Thin poly long underwear, fleece long underwear, random leggings
  • Feet: REI Expedition socks (really thick merino), winter boots (clips and straps on pedals)
  • Hands: Dakine Sequoia gloves, with the included liner
How did it work out?
Hands got a bit sweaty, feet got a bit uncomfortable (but nothing bad). The wool did its moisture wicking job, so I did not get too wet. I should have worn cycling shorts under the rest of the getup.
