My self preservation instinct certainly has put me at a disadvantage in 1/2 races and is something I'm working hard to correct. Yeah this. Not only cuz it makes the race easier, but also cuz in P12 everyone is trusting that everyone else is comfortable in the pack, close quarters, and are comfortable enough on the bike to not freak over some bumping, wheel touching, off roading (velo promo crap roads where the shoulder can suddenly disappear lol) etc.
