I have a decent sized neighborhood with paved streets. Before my doctor released me to ride outdoors my wife was okay if I rode our streets around the neighborhood. If I rode every cul-de-sac it added up to 7 miles. We even have a pretty short 10% where I could see how pushing a higher gear might feel. It was a great way for me to see how the normal riding stuff we normally take for granted would work. It turned out to be a nice transition to full on road riding, especially experiencing clipping and unclipping (and stopping) on my leg with the new hip! About 30+ miles has been my current limit of 2-3 rides but I'm looking at doing a 50-60 miler this weekend if the weather holds up. We still have a good bit of snow lying on the ground with water running out into the road and refreezing. I really don't want to ride through slush or ice right now.........I rode in 30 degree temperatures last weekend and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed riding in cooler weather. I was also quickly reminded how slower you go with even more effort in colder weather too!! I hope you're able to transition quickly and smoothly.
