Yeah the winter months make P-12 a challenge. That's why the convenience of Permanents would have come in handy, specially because there is a Permanent that starts barely 3 miles from my house. New England Randonneurs do offer a populaire every winter month, so I am waiting for the 2019 calendar to come out. Maybe they will add more populaires now.
You may be able to volunteer, do the pre ride, and help at the event (that is, run the thing). Even if that's not realistic for this year, you might find it useful to discuss the possibility with your RBA.
Not that I have done what I suggest... To help out with rides in my area, i would need a car. There's some irony there....
