You may be able to volunteer, do the pre ride, and help at the event (that is, run the thing). Even if that's not realistic for this year, you might find it useful to discuss the possibility with your RBA.

Not that I have done what I suggest... To help out with rides in my area, i would need a car. There's some irony there....
