E-bikes have been completely transformational to my parents. They have four total; two purchased as e-bikes and two converts. My dad rides 3-4k miles a year in hilly St. George, UT.
What surprised me the most is the seat comfort, even after 2-3 hours. When you have the bike assisting you, your bum is far less sore after so many hours on the bike.
