Yup. CDs can sound fantastic, but I've never met someone that preferred them in back-to-back listens with sources that were remotely comparable in price.
Once, early in my time at Sound by Singer, Andy came in to one of the listening rooms while I was playing with configuring systems at various price points. He immediately liked what he'd heard, and asked about the speaker and integrated amp pairing, but looked a little confused until I lifted the needle, "oh, that's why it sounds so good." He had assumed I was playing a CD when he came in.
