TrackMyTour: Travel Blogging for iPhone and iPad . It is an app that lets you enter waypoints while you are riding and then creates a map showing your route. If you make these maps public and send a link to your family and friends, then they can see your current location and the track you've ridden.
The app is free and the first one or two maps are free, as well. I've used it for years and highly recommend it. Here's an example of my most recent tour in Southern Italy:

I was going to suggest Track My Tour as well! It is a great little app that does exactly what it says.
HOWEVER, and it's a big
however, the app itself is ONLY for iPhones and iPads. (and iPod touch if you go that route, which is how I did it when I used it.) They have no plans to make an android or other app. So if you don't have an iPhone/Pad/etc, you would have to be able to update the track via the website.
