Well Mavic disagrees. If you ask them why your laminated Mavic hub won't stay true and is creaking and groaning, they will inform you that they tend to come unglued and fail, and those are the signs of such failure. In my case, they helpfully advised me not to use that hub on a front wheel, because front wheel failures are much worse than rears. Not being enough of a gambler, I parted out the wheels and sent the hubs to a landfill where they belonged.
Like I said, vintage Mavic parts may be a different story, but that's not really germane to the question.
