I'm surprised no one mentioned Specialized - a lot of riders in my area ride Specialized frames and bikes. Prices start at around $700 for an entry level bike.

Also Raleigh UK has recently added their Equipe Track bike at 600 pounds UK. If you buy in UK and fly back with it as baggage you can avoid VAT. I like it is made with 6061 aluminum (or should that be aluminium) alloy
