To fine tune the alignment of the derailleur pulleys to the cogs you put the brain into adjust mode, and then tap a lever one way or the other to get it perfect. It kind of takes the place of cable tension adjustment. They you take it out of that mode. When you switch to 11 speed you need to reprogram the brain for each part. When you unplug something like a derailleur you lose all the memory. Explore the e-tube software. It's NOT plug and play! Download the appropriate software from Shimano into your computer and start reading it now. I posted a link. You need an interface device too.
Before that, and after the limit screws, you put it into crash recovery mode while spinning the cranks.
I will say, once I go to 11 speed, I'll never be able to go back to 10 speed, at least with that battery.
