Is this thread about not knowing yearly miles, journaling, or about not knowing a current ride’s mileage as it is being ridden? Those are 2 very different things.

I’ve used a bike computer for decades so I know the number of miles I have ridden today, along with avg speed, etc. but I don’t keep a journal. The closet thing was writing daily mileage on a wall calendar for a few years way back in the 80’s. But I abandon that by the time 1990 rolled around.

I don’t have any problems with people keeping weekly/monthly/yearly track; it might be interesting. It is not something I do. And I’ve never thought of doing it with any other sport or activity. If someone skates, do they keep track of yearly stairs and grinds, or yearly waves caught surfing, tennis aces, guitar notes played, etc. Although golf is probably one where journaling, carrying a handicap, has value.
