I have kickstands on half my bikes, and my wife's bikes. The one on my Miyata Racer has been there 43 years. None of these bikes has suffered any damage. It's all about the installation and care - afterall, if you are careless you could destroy your bike by how you adjust the RD, it's as simple as that., 404, user error. The Edge/Pletcher doubles are very torquey and tend to snap open and closed. You have to be careful they are firmly seated and opened and closed slowly, carefully. I would not install a kickstand on a teen's bike.

Give your wife a kickstand, and a bell.
