I have an Arc'teryx jacket, after 8 years of constant use the zipper failed, the slider itself came apart. Otherwise the jacket looked brand new, and functionally it was perfect for me. Cost more than $100 to have the zipper replaced, I used a company that does good work. They haven't made that jacket for years, I couldn't just buy another one.
Anyway, yeah, zippers are important.
