And the specific means of intercommunication is not a settled mater and will almost certainly not involve the cell network. The information exchange is only to other cars within a few hundred meters. My understanding is that the cars must AT LEAST communicate with the mapping programs, which must be very up-to-date and accurate. For example, the car needs to "know" exactly when and where a road is closed for construction or even for an accident. And yes, it will have to communicate very quickly. From what I've read, this is a major stumbling block.
