Thanks! It was a surprise for sure. I had to pick up the crank and hot-foot it to a bus line to get to my train. Eventually I got a replacement spindle. The Strida importer said he had never seen that kind of failure in a "mild steel" part. I've never seen a crank spindle that wasn't hardened...
