Thank you! In the case of these two bags, the lower lip is indeed a bit below the halfway point, but as I've used a similar bag with similar angles for years without trouble I'm not too concerned. There is about half a inch of the flap that get tucked between the buckles and front to "seal" up the front. My focus was getting enough of an opening for easy access, with the flap not extending further up than where the loops are for the saddle. However, now that these two are complete, I think there is ample space to access the bag and I can easily stitch up future ones another half inch or so up the front. Thank you for the suggestion!
