This frame likely has thin wall tubes, no other real reason then marketing to use a heat treated tube as the common wall thicknesses have proved their abilities for decades on many frames. So add thin wall, a tight crease at the dent's bottom and the more brittle nature of heat treated tubing and...

Were this my frame and were I had no care about aesthetics I might patch the tube with a piece of .058" wall tube that's 1/8" larger in diameter. Andy
