I purchased my 2000 720 MT new. At the time I looked at the 700, 720, 7200 and 7300. The 720 and 7200 were nearly identical except for the cromoly vs the aluminum frame. The aluminum 7200 was less than 1/2 lb lighter and 720 "felt" better. Even today, the 2018 FX is less than a lb lighter than my chromoly 720.
Update: 2018 520 Disc is a chromoly touring bike. Swap out the drops for a flat bar, maybe wider tires, and you have a modern steel multitrack.
