My experience with mirrors is inconclusive. I found that larger mirrors that actually show what is happening behind you tend to be bulky and increase the overall length of the handlebars, which in turn increases the risk of hooking other vehicles in traffic. Some models can be installed above or below the handlebars rather than on the side - the folding-in / out however will destroy the flimsy chinesium plastic in weeks.

The smaller models (less than 5cm across) are totally useless and you’ll end up squinting in the thing way too long and decrease safety.
