If you haven't already, give Ergon grips a try. They do an excellent job of distributing the pressure area on your hands. I couldn't ride my flat bar road bikes without them.
Hang in there. You'll eventually find the fit and comfort you seek. Besides, tinkering is almost as much fun as riding right?
