Last ride 76. This bike continues to impress me. One of the fun things about it is that it was cheap to acquire and would be cheap to replace if anything happened to it. That has emboldened me to do experiments, so maybe the ugliness is a feature rather than a bug.
Also, I don't like doing finishing projects. They're tedious, and I'm never satisfied. I painted the frame of my International, and it took a long time, and the result isn't so good. I won't unveil my idea for refinishing this bike until and unless it's done. It's a bit unusual.
Your 'ugly' bike is pretty cool! I remember a local rider would get a new racing frame, like a nice Cinelli, Masi or whatnot, then rattle spray paint it and the components in the most hideous way so that you didn't know what it was unless doing a close inspection. He said he never had his bikes stolen when 'prepped' this way! He would ride them to school, work store, etc. and not secure it while away.
