I agree trainers have their role, and I actually have one for cold weather/unsafe riding conditions. My point was that if it's just the early darkness that is preventing one from riding, and the weather conditions are good, a light may be more fun than the trainer.
I feel a little safer riding (in traffic) at night because headlights tell you where cars are, before you could see the car in daylight. Specifically thinking about cross traffic.
